This year has shifted so much for me and my family. While we still depend on Amazon for so much, I wanted to be more intentional this year about my shopping. As a small business owner, I understand the happy dance entrepreneur’s do every time they sell something. So, rather than padding Jeff Bezo’s pockets even more in the middle of a global pandemic, I’m making an effort to purchase elsewhere, particularly from businesses owned by Black, Indigenous, or other people of color, LGBTQ folx, and women.
I enlisted the help of others and wanted to share what I’ve come up with. I haven’t sampled from everything on this list. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s a start. Supporting small businesses is community care and I invite you to join me this year in shopping small!
A few notes: I’ve included a few lists of Black-owned businesses near the end of this list. I have not included any multi-level marketing businesses in this list in an lift up independently-owned businesses. Please don’t take offense!

The New Primal – One of my favorite companies and their sauces are the best! Most of their products are Whole30, so they’re gluten, dairy, and (added) sugar free. They’d make great stocking stuffers.
Rasa – Have you ever tried adaptogens for stress relief? These delicious coffee replacements (or not) have helped me to manage my stress levels this year and are a highlight of my day.
JOI – What’s a Rasa latte without the dairy free milk? JOI is a delicious almond and cashew milk concentrate. You can make as little or as much as you want- which means less waste and less single use plastic!

When we support a small business, we are supporting a dream. Yes, these products usually cost more than something you could buy for cheap on Amazon or at Walmart. But often times, these are handmade, one-of-a-kind creations. There’s a person behind your purchase, which is special for everyone involved in the giving.
